10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. Dutch Oven Seminar

Our seminar host this year is Paul Mantz-Powers.

Paul has been cooking with Dutch Ovens for about 33 years. He first got interested in Dutch Ovens when he became a scout master for a Boy Scout troop in Beaverton, Oregon. He started out making peach cobblers. It was so much fun he just kept trying new things and before long he was being asked to teach others how to use the ovens and to cook for groups. When he moved back to Washington he and some other cooks started the Northwest Dutch Oven Society. He moved back to eastern Washington in 1993 and helped start four more Dutch Oven societies. Over the years he has burned up tons of charcoal and fire wood cooking in Dutch Ovens. He has taught seminars, competed in Dutch Oven Cook-offs, organized cook-offs, catered, and cooked with and for friends and family.

Paul says, "I'm really looking forward to the Sacajawea Bluegrass Festival and Dutch Oven Rendezvous. What a great combination. How could you not have fun with Bluegrass music and Dutch Oven food. Yup, this is one event I don't want to miss."

June 12, 2010 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Dutch Oven Demonstrations

Dutch Oven cooking will be demonstrated and small samples given to those interested.
This will really demonstrate how anyone can have fun with Dutch Oven cooking, as the demonstrators will be everyone from very experienced cooks all the way to beginners.

Check in at the Dutch Oven area for the exact time and sign up for the Jackpot Cook-off. The only rule for the Jackpot cook-off is; cooked and served in a Dutch Oven. Eaters will be your judges...bribing is allowed

*Dutch Oven Cooks

We need DO cooks to help out. If you would like to volunteer at the Dutch Oven shelter during the festival, please contact Liz at (509)545-8024 (prior to June 1, 2010). If you volunteer for 4 hours you will receive a Saturday pass into the festival.

...If your are interested in DO cooking and haven't yet cooked in your pot, bring your pot (Dutch Oven :-) )(seasoned and ready to go) and we will have something easy for you to cook and we'll hook you up with a DO mentor. Then you can attend the potluck with your dish!
